The church was built in 1953 on the place of the old church and chapels.

 

The sacrificial stone Jaanikivi (John’s stone) got its name after a legend according to which St. John sat down to rest on the stone ages ago and an imprint of that was left on the stone’s surface. The stone is believed to be marking an ancient holy spot. Behind the stone, on the Pühamäe hill there is an underground cemetery.

 

Near Jaanikivi there flows a stream called Silmaallikas (the Eye Spring). The water of the spring has therapeutic effect on eyes..
