The name Luidja hints at the meaning of dune and there are dunes indeed. One of the
moving sands was even threatening the farms before it was stopped by foresting in the
beginning of the 20th century. The post windmill in Luidja is one of the 51 windmills or
the remains of the windmills left in Hiiumaa.
