The main task of Muuksi Stronghold was probably to be the coastguard and lighthouse. At the location of the stronghold the western side rises from the surrounding ground for up to 10 metres higher. From the west the stronghold area was protected by a sharp and high klint and from the south by an arch-shaped stone wall. The courtyard of the stronghold is surrounded by a partially preserved low sodded wall.
