The czar’s repressions towards the Old Believers closed the Kallaste village humble
prayer house down. But only the very house. In the year of 1848 the bishop of Riga
had to inform the imperial clerks as follows: „After the prayer houses in Kallaste and
Kolkja were closed down local fathers turned homes into prayer houses and have night
sermons there.”
