Estonians have had their song festivals not so much because they have an irresistible urge to sing but the festivals were the first tottery baby-steps towards independence.
The memorial is set by a common grave of those fallen in Narva in 1918–1920, in the
battles of the Independence War. The memorial was destroyed in the II World War –
like most of old Narva – but restored in 1996 – not like most of old Narva.

The memorial is on the Seminari square in Võru and is dedicated to the Võru people who perished in the ferry disaster on the stormy night of 28th of September 1994. The memorial was founded in 1996 by famous Estonian sculptor Mati Karmin.
