The Bridge of Freedom is believed to be locating in the spot used already during the ancient times to exchange goods between Russian cities and Estonian counties. While planning the previous bridge the city had to break off the negotiations with the German company who had won the contest for finding the builder for it - it was threatened to leave the city no state subsidy should the work be given to foreigners. The bridge was blown up in the war. The current one is erected in 2009.
