A legend says two wedding parties collided and the groom from one and the pride from
the other were killed. The groom and pride left behind married themselves and marked
the fatal spot with a cross. A less theatrical explanation for the thousands of crosses is
that Coastal Swedes deported from Hiiumaa to Russia in 1781set the first ones before
leaving. Anyone passing by follows.
