Building of the St Urban´s Lutheran Church in Urvaste started in the 14th century and achieved its current shape in 1889.
It is the only basilica among the medieval country churches in Estonia. The massive west tower has been added, the church has been rebuilt and furnished in the pseudo-Gothic style. The two altar paintings are “Christ in Gethsemane” by Carl Siegismund Walther, 1855 and “Christ on the Cross” (author unknown).
