The Chronicle of Henry of Livonia speaks about 20 000 men beleaguering the castle for five days, Older Rhime Chronicle of Livonia speaks of 2 500 being killed and only one managing to escape. While building a dam over the Small Strait in the 19th century the stones from the fort's strong walls were used as the filling material.
