Viru-Jaakobi church parish dates back to the year of 1220. The
church dates back to second half of the 15th century, an earlier one
first mentioned in 1345 located in the neighbouring village. In the
east side of the choir there is a rare niche down the wall believed
originally being a sepulcher.
