It was meant to become the last resting place for von Ungern-Sternbergs but the
groundwater turned out being too high. Having no rectory or cemetery it was just a
simple church nicely by the road. In the summer of 1939 the Soviet army found a new
use for it – as a warehouse. Its tower evolved to a watch tower. Having burnt in the war
it was renovated in the 1990s.
