The church was built between the 13th and 14th centuries and it is one of the oldest medieval churches in Central Estonia with a pseudo-Gothic interior from the 19th century.
A tomb monument (1800) to General Fersen lies the choir. A wheel cross with clothes batlet from the grave of Ratesepa Anne (1598). Painter Johann Köler and the composers Kapp and Mart Saar are buried in the graveyard.
