The exact date of building the church is unknown. It is believed though it was there by
the 15th century the latest. Seemingly it was in ruins for most of the 17th century. When
restored in 1836 it was destroyed again in the II World War. Since only its walls were
left standing in 1997 the Karula manor’s old granary was adjusted to be the new church.
