Through the oldest village in the borough, also Tärivere, first mentioned in 1330, a root
goes and ends on top of the hill that is the highest in Eastern Virumaa – 94 meters
above the sea line. On top of it stands a watch tower. Climb it on a clear day and you
see the lake Peipsi and the abbey in Kuremäe.
A legend says local peasants received a miraculous relevation on this hill and later on found an Orthodox icon most holy under the oak-tree here, a sacrificial one itself. All of this happened in the 16th century.
