Having been a closed town during the Soviet era the Sillamäe Boulevard ended before the sea –
the sea was a border zone and closed for regular citizens. Not to worry though, the boulevard was lined with sculptures and palm-trees, which were taken indoors in autumn and brought back out in spring again.
A legend says local peasants received a miraculous relevation on this hill and later on found an Orthodox icon most holy under the oak-tree here, a sacrificial one itself. All of this happened in the 16th century.
