Villa Margaretha is a well-located cosy small hotel in Art Nouveau style, five-minute walk away are historically interesting places, such as town hall, theatre Vanemuine, Tartu Art College, Mikkeli Galley, former Karlova manor house and many other buildings that form the townscape of Tartu.
Margaretha house was constructed during 1911–1919. Businessman and photographer Heinrich Riedel built it with love for his wife Olga Natalia Margaretha Koit-Riedel. It is also known from history that in 1919, the body of military commander Julius Kuperjanov, who died in Estonian War of Independence, was sent to its last journey from here.
Villa Margaretha is a meeting place with romantic atmosphere, somewhat mysterious, but always inviting. Domestic creaking of wooden stairs has gone to history, large doors close soundlessly – and lodgers should not be disturbed by anything. Today, the villa in its newly found youth is an enjoyable sight in the town Tartu. It is not only to be admired from the outside but also a dignified hotel with its marvellous rooms, restaurant and coffee corner. It is a gate to the borough of Karlova – a key of this gate.
The Art-Nouveau-style house with a tower and weather vane has seventeen rooms, each of which has its unique face. Even the furniture is in Art Nouveau style, accentuated by textiles in colours characteristic of the period. The villa has six double rooms and one room with a porch, three junior suites, three de lux double rooms, two de lux-suites with a bath and two luxurious penthouse suites.
After an active day in the university town, in Villa Margaretha, you are welcomed with personal service, cosiness and peaceful garden town milieu
