In the end of the 19th century, after Tallinn-St. Petersbourg trainline was opened (1870), Aegviidu became a popular destination among vacationers from Tallinn. Later it also became hiking and ski center.

It was by the village Aidu where one of the braking battles of the
Independence War took place. It marks the spot most far to where
managed to encroach a Red Army soldier. Erected in 1929 the
monument got torn down during the Soviet time.
